What I learned last night.

I went to a women's history lecture last night. It was on Marjorie Hinckley. Does it get better than that? I love the woman. I love her humor and I love her attitude toward life. Here are some of the things I learned. (I will star the points the lecuturer Virginia, their daughter, pointed out as the messages Marjorie left behind)
-We each leave messages with our loved ones when we pass on. What are the messages I am leaving (intentional or unintentional) with my family right now?
*Be content with yourself and your life-Marjorie didn't feel entitled to anything. She worked for what she had and was cheerful all the while.
-Marjorie's best marriage advice: lower your expectations. I love that!! Dan loved that :)
-We all struggle with feeling entitled to a good life and then when it doesn't go like we feel it should, we complain. We need to get rid of that mind set. Life is life, we are not entitled to anything.
-Marjorie wasn't able to attend college (had to withdraw when her dad was laid off during the depression) so she decided that since this is her life she was going to educate herself. I love that. This is my life, I am going to take charge and figure it out instead of letting others try to tell me.
*Encourage others- Be everyone's champion. Make them feel like they can do it!!
-Marjorie never got upset with herself for what she couldn't accomplish or didn't do, "but just did what she did"
-The slightest encouragement we give to others goes straight to their heart
*Consecrate yourself to the kingdom-wear yourself out in service to others.

What fabulous things for me to hear last night. What needed things for me to hear last night. My favorite thing was to be content with yourself and your life. Have confidence that you are enough, even with all of those wonderful flaws. I love life's journey and how we change and grow and come to understand things in different ways. I love that I am learning what matters most in life. I love that I will know even more about it tomorrow and the next day. It is a very cool process and I am grateful for life. I love learning!
