The Murphy Family

I was in Pocatello this weekend and happened upon a very insightful and inspiring conversation in the Mother's Lounge ( I think I am going to write a book "What I learned in the Mother's Lounge). It has inspired me to do better with basic food storage. Anyway, one of the girls in there gave me this link and it's awesome. It is called everydayfoodstorage.blogspot.com. It is on my fave list. You should all check it out. By the way, would someone please tell my husband that there is no mini refridgerator or flat screen TV in the Mother's Lounge.

All I have really been posting about is Mason because he is so dang fun, so I thought I better update everyone on life in the Murphy household. Well, as of right now, we are on the hunt for a job. Not really any job in particular, just one that pays you money and does not involve talking to grouchy customers on the phone. Dan has been such a trooper working on the phones at Qwest for 2 Years. That is no easy task, but he is a good little hubby and knows we need it. Anyway, I know he will find something soon, but in the mean time, the Lord is giving us a very effective patience lesson. We love every second that we are home together. Mason makes us laugh so hard every day, and we make each other laugh too, so we can't complain. I just finished my Love and Logic class and it was so fun. I loved the group of people I did it for and I got to get out once a week and do what I love to do. I learn new things every time I teach it and can't wait to try them on my own kiddos as they get ...

So, I have been giving Mason little bits of rice cereal for the last couple of weeks, but he wasn't really into it ever. I decided we would try some sweet potatos and after about 1 bite he discovered how delicious they are. The pictures tell the story. I can't believe how fast this little boy is becoming independant. It's fun and sad all at the same time... mostly just fun though. He has decided that he loves a sippy cup too. He never would take a bottle, but he seems to feel really proud when he gets a drink from the sippy. Anyway, I love this fun little boy. What is this foreign substance? One bite was all it took and he started getting all excited and smiley. He is so proud of himself. He finally figured out that you have to use a spoon differently than you drink milk. He just started sucking it down like he hadn't eaten in days. He finally just grabbed the spoon from me and ripped it out of my hand and fed himself. He actually got it into his mouth and swallowed...

I just want to wish the most wonderful mama in the world, a Happy Mother's Day!! My mom has taught me more about being a mother than any number of books I have read or ever will read. They say you should teach your children by example, and wow, did she know how to do that. I think everyone who knows my mom would say that she is a sweet lady, but she is so much more than a sweet lady, and has taught me so many life long lessons. My mom taught me how to laugh. I can think of at least a million times when I came home from school, sad or grouchy, and my mom tried to lift me up by saying something hilarious, as she always does. Sometimes, I think I was so grouchy (especially in my teen years, oops) that I didn't even acknowledge it, but thank you mom for brightening many grouchy days. To this day, my mom finds ways to laugh in every little situation, even the situations where laughing seems really tough. She taught me how to be a mother without complaining about the mundane things ...

Yay for Graduation!!! I am so proud of my cute little hubby for graduating, but more importantly, for working so hard to take care of us while he was working so hard in school as well. It is a huge accomplishment to even graduate from college, but to graduate and actually retain and apply the knowledge like Dan has, is really quite a feat. Graduation was a wonderful day. Mason and I watched on the sidewalk as Dan walked by in the processional and I could tell by the surprised smile on Dan's face when he saw us, that he was so glad we were there, and I was so happy I made the effort to get there early. It was a great general ceremony, but the really neat part was that L. Tom Perry recieved an honorary doctorate and only spoke at the College of Business graduation, so we were privileged to hear that. Dan got to shake his hand as he got his diploma and I got to run into him at the drinking fountain and his wife came over to Mason's stroller and told me how beautiful his eyes were ...

Well, Dan's parents came to visit for Dan's graduation and they FINALLY got to meet Mason. Let's just say he did not mind all of the attention. I don't know what we are going to do with him now because has been spoiled for the whole last week. There was always someone to hold him and cuddle him and he even got riding companions in the car, which he LOVES!! Anyway, We had a wonderful week. We were constantly out and about just looking around at stuff and it was a really nice change. The boys golfed almost every day and we got pedicures and manicures. Ahh. I guess I have a little explaining to do with the Dan kicking the door. I accidentally locked the dead bolt on our garage door and I had no idea but, we don't have a key for it. So, the only thing to do was break down the door so that Dan could get his golf clubs and pass out of the car, right?? I don't know what got into me, but I really wanted to see my husband kick down a door, so I told them to keep goi...

I just want to wish my sweet little angel niece a Happy 1st Birthday! She spent just enough time with her parents to change the way they will live and the way they will love, forever. She made us all stop and think about how much we love every little person in our family and how we need to enjoy every single day with the ones we love. She reminded us that the Lord has a perfect plan for each of us, and sometimes it is more painful that we think we can stand. She reminded us how bad something can hurt, so we need to enjoy every second that doesn't hurt....and try to find some joy in the ones that do. She reminded us that we grow through our trials and become people we never would have dreamed of otherwise. She taught her parents that they are stronger than they ever would have guessed. She taught us all that being an amazing mother is much more than changing diapers and feedings (Marie actually taught us that). She taught us that providing for a family is only a small part of being ...
